About Me
Hi, I’m Prabesh Karki, though most people just call me Karki. I’m a Vancouver based photographer originally from Nepal, with a passion for capturing weddings, portraits, and meaningful moments. Outside of photography, I enjoy learning new things, pondering in silence, watching anime, and traveling whenever life gives me the opportunity. If you’d like to learn more about my journey, the gear I use, and what’s next, feel free to explore the sections below
How My Photography Journey Began
I was born and raised in Nepal, and was basically my family’s personal photographer. Whenever we went somewhere or had a family gathering, I was the kid everyone handed the phone to and said, “Hey, take a picture!”.
Fast forward to 2023. I went on a hike in Squamish with my friend, Ygor, who brought along his camera. He handed it to me and said, “Here, give it a try.” The moment I looked through the screen, I was completely blown away. As someone with poor eyesight, it honestly felt like I had been granted a superpower. I could suddenly see distant mountains, trees, birds, and tiny details with incredible clarity, and on top of that, I could capture those moments exactly as I saw them.
That was it. That was all it took. The very next week, I bought my first camera, and I haven’t looked back since. Photography quickly became more than just another hobby, it became one of my favorite ways to experience the world. Every time I pick up my camera, I still get a little reminder of that feeling, like I’ve borrowed a tiny superpower for the day.
My Current Gears & Photography
These days, I mainly photograph portraits, weddings, and real estate. Photography is still one of my biggest hobbies, but I’m fortunate that it has also become professional work. Every now and then, I also offer TFP sessions whenever I want to experiment with a new idea, explore a different style, or simply create something fun.
One saying you’ll often hear is, “It’s not the camera, it’s the photographer.” I think that’s only half the story. A great photographer can absolutely create beautiful images with basic equipment, even a phone. But having the right gear gives you the freedom to create exactly what you imagine. It opens up creative possibilities that simply aren’t possible otherwise. At the heart of my setup is the Sony A7 IV. It isn’t the most expensive camera on the market, but it’s a fantastic professional camera that has never let me down. For most of my work, I use a Tamron 28–200mm lens, while my Viltrox ultra-wide lens comes out for real estate and interior photography. For video work, I use a DJI RS 4 Mini gimbal, and for immersive virtual tours, I use an Insta360 X5. Alongside those, I have the usual collection of accessories that every photographer slowly acquires over time.
Looking Ahead
Looking ahead, my biggest goal is simply to keep improving as both a photographer and a videographer. I want to take on as many different projects as I can, continue learning, experiment with new ideas, and challenge myself to create better work with every shoot.
More than anything, I hope my photos can make people happy. Whether it’s helping someone relive a special memory, celebrating an important milestone, or simply creating a photo they genuinely love, that’s what makes photography worthwhile to me. One dream I have is to work behind the camera on a documentary, travelling to unique and remote places around the world. Whether that’s Antarctica, the Arctic, or somewhere completely unexpected, the idea of exploring incredible places, meeting fascinating people, and telling their stories through photos and film sounds like an unforgettable adventure.
Until then, I’ll keep learning, keep creating, and keep enjoying every opportunity to pick up my camera.

Beyond Photography
Below are some projects that I’ve been working on.
Siege: Behind Enemy Lines
Description:
When an invasion traps Josh and Sam inside their hometown, every street becomes a battlefield, every stranger a potential threat, and every decision could mean the difference between life and death. Told through Josh’s first-person perspective, Siege: Behind Enemy Lines follows two young adults in their early twenties as they fight to survive a city under siege.
Book of Systems
Description:
Book of Systems is an ongoing personal project where I explore ideas, workflows, and systems that I believe can help build a better future. It’s a place where I organize my thoughts, challenge assumptions, and document lessons I’m learning along the way.
I’m still actively working on it, and I look forward to sharing it once it’s ready.
